SPECIFIC AIMS OF THE CENTER of EXCELLENCE
The goal of our Hartford Center of Excellence is to increase both the number and quality of academic geriatric psychiatrists.

We propose to accomplish this goal by:

  1. Increasing the number of qualified applicants to the Hartford CoE program;

  2. Enhancing our current fellowship training by enriching existing instruction in research, teaching, and clinical skills; and

  3. Establishing three types of academic geriatric psychiatrist tracks,including a Physician-Investigator track (research-intensive), a Physician-Educator track (focusing on clinical and teaching components), and a new Services/Administrative track (focusing on health services research and administration). We will plan to:

    • Increase the length of training (for up to 3 years beyond the clinical fellowship),

    • Provide a formal research curriculum for the CoE Scholars in all three
      tracks,

    • Provide formal mentorship by accomplished investigators, and

    • Provide a formal research experience (with support to complete a pilot project).
